I don’t think I’m alone in falling back on cliché to express what has, for the most part, felt inexpressible. The unprecedented. The thing to do, I guess, is parse what I really mean when I fall back on the clichés that have come to define this very strange time.
What’s not strange is the love of home made food that has grown hundred fold. People have started making sourdough, yogurt, spiced crackers and more.
These spiced easy crackers have been made quite a lot of times at home. They are healthy and you can make it your own by adding any flavorings. What I love during the holidays is to make a cheese board gift box or basket with crackers, Santé Candied Pecans, and cheese.
One of the very best ways to make the most of entertaining and friends time is by placing a tray of nuts, spiced crackers, cheese, meats, honey, fruit, and maybe even a bottle of wine in front of your face. It’s easy meets fancy meets LOVE THIS KIND OF FOOD, and if you can pause for long enough between cheese-stuffed-bites to take a breath and say something, it’s a perfect scenario for long, lazy, relaxed conversations.
Easy Homemade Crackers
Homemade spiced crackers take minutes and they can be made with any flour. These are the best homemade whole wheat crackers. Once you start making your own, you’ll start questioning store bought. And let’s be honest, when you can make your own crackers with this little effort that has way more taste and with whole food real ingredients, you’ll never go back to buying them again!

Ash.
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup All purpose flour
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- ½ cup to 1 cup of cold water
- white sesame seeds
- Black sesame seeds
- Bagel seasoning
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- In a large bowl, add the flours, pepper, salt, and olive oil. Use your hands and mix the oil in the dough evenly.
- Add the water and mix just until the dough starts to stick together . Remove the dough, press together gently with your hands to form a single ball, and cut into four pieces. Let the dough rest for about ten minutes.
- Turn the baking tray, and roll out each individual piece of dough as thin as you possibly can. If the dough starts to shrink up, let it rest a little longer. You want the dough to get very, very thin. Lightly brush the cracker dough with some water and sprinkle the seasame seeds and roll with pin to press the seeds in. Cut it into strips before baking.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, check periodically to make sure it’s not getting too brown. Take it out on a cooling rack. The crackers will get crispier as it cools down.
