This easy and nourishing homemade soap is easily customizable and makes for a perfect gift for Mother’s Day, Teachers’ Appreciation Week, for friends, or just for yourself.
Mother’s Day weekend is a few days away. Happy Mother’s Day to all you lovely mom’s out there. Including the moms to all the fur babies too!!
What is a better gift than chocolate, flowers, and homemade goodies for moms?
I’m a sucker for homemade skin care, and haven’t used a store bought soap in years. I first started out making homemade LIP BALM years ago. Then it was hair oil, BATH BOMBS, and soaps.
The best thing about making your own products is that you can customize it to your preferences. They make for perfect gifts that anyone can actually use, and definitely will appreciate. I’ve converted so many of my friends to homemade soaps, lip balms, and oils.
Today, I’m going to share with you the DIY soap. It is not difficult AT ALL to make your own soap, and although you will need to purchase a few items, you can make quite a lot of soap for not a huge initial outlay. I haven’t delved into the process of lye making, it sort of scares me. Still, this works. After many tries and combination fails, I’ve had great success with a few. Here, I haven’t used essential oils in the soaps since I like the natural smells of the coffee-chocolate and the honey-saffron.
Making the soap:
There are different kinds of soap bases you can use. Crystal clear ones, honey, hemp, coconut milk, aloe and many more. I prefer the goat’s milk soap base for it’s added nutrients, and it’s very high in protein and triglyceride content making it an excellent natural moisturizer. It contains Vitamins A, B6, B12 and E as well as beta-casein which all help with hydrating and nourishing dry skin. Goat milk is a natural emollient.
Making soap is quite an easy task. You have to melt the soap base, add the oils, the exfoliants, mix and pour. Both coffee and chocolate are very good for skin, while oatmeal and saffron need no introduction to how moisturizing they are for your skin. If you want to add some essential oils for a more fragrant touch, go ahead. An important thing to remember while pouring in molds is to keep the molds on a baking tray and then pour them. It is easier to transfer it into the freezer.
PACKAGING THIS NOURISHING Coffee-honey and Oatmeal Saffron Homemade Soap:
There are few tips you need to know about packaging melt ‘n pour soaps. If you’ve been making melt ‘n pour soaps then you know all about the “sweat” or glycerin dew as it’s called. It’s when the soap sits and form little tiny beads on the surface that looks like fine dew. It naturally draws moisture from the air. This is why it makes your skin so silky and moisturized! I don’t mind the little beads on my soap, but if you’re gifting this soap to people, you might have to take care of them. Here’s how I prevent the little beads from forming when I’m going to gift the soap.
How to prevent glycerin beads from forming on homemade soap:
Wrap the soap tightly in plastic wrap or shrink wrap as soon as it’s completely hardened. Then place it in an airtight container with a silica packet on the bottom.
Now it’s ready for gift giving! I hope you enjoy this easy, inexpensive, luxury milk and honey soap as much as we do!
Few Ingredients you’ll need to make these amazingly easy homemade soaps:
The saffron I used can be purchased HERE.
I attached each one with an essential oil. Makes it even more special.
- Goat's milk soap base - 1 cup chopped up
- Coconut oil - 2 tsp
- vit e capsules - 2
- honey - 2 tbsp
- cacao powder or cocoa powder - 3tbsp
- 2 tbsp coffee ground (wet or dry)
- Oats - 3 tbsp ground up
- pinch of saffron crushed
- saffron strands, crushed
- ground cinnamom
- essential oils(optional)
- Take a heat proof glass bowl/measuring cup. Add the chopped goats soap base and microwave it for one minute at 30 second intervals. If you prefer not using the microwave, you can melt it in a double boiler. It melts really fast.
- Once it's fully melted, use a chopstick to mix. Add the coconut oil, pierce open a vitamin e capsule, honey and mix very well.
- At this point, divide the soap base in two. Add cocoa in one with coffee and mix. In the other one, add the oatmeal and saffron and mix well.
- Pour in molds. Immediately spray the top with some alcohol and let it cool down and harden.
- You can speed up the process by freezing it.
- You can use the soap immediately or let it cure for 1-3 weeks.
