Hi my friends,
Some parts of the world celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend.
“What do you want for Mother’s Day?” asked my little one. To that I thought for a few minutes, and responded, “Nothing, I just want to sit at home, on my couch, in my pajamas, all day, watching movies, eating junk, and most of all, no one asking me anything. Lastly, I don’t want a messy kitchen!” I added quite sternly.
He looked at me like, I just wanted to know what to make for you. Oh, well.
I shook myself and said “HONEY CAKE.” The teen said, I thought about the tres leches cake for you. Yay, I love that too, go ahead and make anything. As they had their discussion, I decided to put together my top five favorite cakes from my blog and a favorite of some of our friends.
Recipe – Click here QUICK ROSE FLAVOURED BANANA BREAD
This is a banana bread which is a bit special with the rose water, and the petals make it so special for Mother’s day. One of my favorite posts ever. Banana bread’s really a staple at our house, so I’ve tried this many different ways. I’ve given a lot of substitutions, and it’s as simple as add everything in a bowl and bake.
Recipe – HONEY CAKE- FLUFFY CAKE with HONEY COCONUT SYRUP
Hands down one of my favorite cakes ever, and my boys think it is one of the best. Every single time I make this cake, no matter how large the portions, the boys gobble it all up within a matter of minutes. It’s called the Iyengar Bakery Cake, and if you are from the Southern part of India, you know what I am talking about. I grew up eating this; the memories I had with this one are so special. My aunt, the balcony, the Bakery. A beautiful sponge cake soaked in a honey and coconut syrup, and it is so moist and decadent.
Recipe – Click here SESAME ALMOND CAKE
This is a cake which came from my crème brûlée cake, and topping it with apple was such a nice special touch. It’s not too sweet, not too grainy, just perfect. It’s one of the most balanced cakes, and will be great for any of you moms who don’t like anything that’s overly sweet. If you like sesame, this is a cake for you.
Recipe – Click here WHITE CHOCOLATE TRES LECHES CAKE
This is a cake demanded by my little one every single year for his Birthday and it never disappoints. Just seeing it freshly made, glistening with milk dripping down the sides, makes our mouths water. It’s a simple beautiful cake kids can make, and it’s so moist and yummy. Who doesn’t love a Milk Cake!
Recipe – Click here PISTACHIO CAKE WITH CARDAMOM COFFEE CREAM
It’s a perfect combination of nuttiness and creaminess with a touch of coffee. The cake has an amazing texture and taste. The coffee cream is very subtle and works like magic in this cake. It’s a coffee lover’s dream cake. Happy Mother’s day to everyone around!
Hope you get to try one of these cakes!
Big Hug,
Asha

Oh Asha! When this popped up in my inbox I had to come here straight away (you know how much I love cake). Each and every one of these looks completely irresistible. And if I did’t already have cake for days in my house, I’d be clearing my schedule to make that honey cake. I can see why it is one of your favorites.

Happy Mothers Day sweets! Oh my… these cakes, Ash! But out of all of them, I would have to go with my all time favorite: tres leches! OH MY.. just seeing your photograph made me remember it’s been WAY too long since I’ve made one. It’s my mom’s favorite too.. and if she lived here instead of Texas, I would make it for her. Soooo tasty! Have a beautiful weekend my dear! xo

Happy Mother’s Day! All of these cakes look so good, how could one possibly choose only one? Maybe you’ll get lucky and your kids will be inspired to make all of these! They’ll help you eat them, I’m sure. But what WILL the kitchen look like when they’re done? 🙂 Fun post — thanks.
Asha Shivakumar
Thanks so very much John. My kids are crazy cooks, they love to cook and I know they will be whipping up one of them. You are right though, the kitchen is always a disaster…Anything for love I guess.

Phenomenal cake recipe roundup, Ash! I remember your stunning Honey Cake and I am grateful that you reminded us to make it. The orange honey and fresh orange juice must make it sublime along with the cardamom and topping. I especially love the images where you show the cake sliced (in the original post). Gorgeous! So dreamy. 🙂 Each of these cakes are special in their own right and make me want to race to kitchen to whip them up. Thanks ever so much for sharing, my friend. Here’s to hoping you have the Mother’s Day of your dreams! xo
