Happy February!
The only thing that comes to mind during January is Downton Abbey.
We watched or let’s just say binge watched all 6 seasons under 3 weeks. I know..I know..it’s crazy. We did though. For a month I spoke in an accent new to me, and I felt quite posh. Now that fancy accent is fading away as fast as the memories of Downton Abbey are. I enjoyed it so much that I pretty much have withdrawal symtom now. I’m looking for another period drama. If you have suggestions, please do let me know.
I day dreamed about sitting in a library and asking “Would you like some tea?” Thinking in English just made me feel like a “lady.” Spent a portion of time even taking quizzes to find what character we were..;).
Ah… the way the royalty lived… It’s all too nice… Still though, I would like to dress myself, you know?! The lady’s maid sounds good, but..sort of an annoyance too, I think. And I’d prefer to make my own coffee or tea. It sure was a fabulous to see how people lived though!
One day I woke up with a question, “Did they ever cook for their kids?”… I just realized that I had to get down to get lunch ready for everyone.
Wraps work for so many different occasions. They are great picnic food, game food, and they make for great lunches.
I am a big big fan of packing lunch boxes for the family. Not only are they delicious, but healthier too. With a little bit of a prep the night before and 15 minutes in the morning, it’s a good and nicely packed lunch. The lunchbox from PLANETBOX is easy for portion controlled meals too.
Hope you get to try it out. Have a wonderful week.

Ash
- 1 cup Whole Almonds with skin
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tbsp smooth mustard
- 2 tsp honey
- 2 tsp chilli sauce(sambal or sriracha)
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- ½ cup water
- Spinach tortillas or any Tortilla of your choice
- 2 green capsicum cut to 2 inch thin long pieces
- 2 carrots cut to 2 inch thin strips
- 1 yellow capsicum cut to 2 inch thin strips
- ½ cup firm tofu( you could use paneer or halloumi too)
- Pepper
- Salt
- Almond Cream
- Soak the almonds in water for 2 hours or even over night.
- Drain the almonds. Add the almond in a blender along with everything for the spread/sauce. Add the water as required. It has to be spreadable. Grind it to a coarse paste or fine depending on how you like your spreads. Set aside.
- Soak the tofu in some soy sauce overnight and the morning, drain it well with some paper towel. Cut to thin pieces and pan fry it with little oil.
- Saute the veggies with some pepper and salt until it is cooked partially. You can at this point cook it fully or keep it as raw as you want. Set aside.
- Warm the tortillas on a griddle until is pliable and you see some dark spots on them. Warm up everything and wrapped in some kitchen towel.
- Take one tortilla and Spread some Almond Cream. Add little tofu, vegetables and roll it up as tight as you can.
- Cut the rolls in thirds.
- To serve the rolls with some sauce, add some light coconut cream or water to the Almond cream with some pepper and salt to serve by the side.
For a nut free option, you can just add Sriracha and Mayo with some mustard. It makes for a nice dip.
Little Cooking Tips
Wow. That looks so rich! Those aren’t usual wraps, they contain all your love for cooking and for your family. They’re really really good and complex in flavors! LOVED them! We don’t have tofu here, so we have so other great cheeses, so we’ll definitely make this work:)
As for the show, we never watched it ourselves, even though we like shows which take place in other periods:/ Which is strange now that we mentioned it. 🙂 We liked the Borgias have you watched this? We also watch Game of Thrones and enjoyed very much 2 mini series, “The Pillars of the Earth” and “World without End”. Give them a try, they’re great shows.
Have an amazing day dear Ash!

Borgias, is new to me. I am going to research it now. Game of Thrones is big with my hubby, although I am not hooked on to it, I watch it with him. Thank you so so much for your suggestions. I will be researching because I love period drama which is filled with history.
You can’t find tofu there? That’s really surprising. It will work with any firm cheese too. Thanks a ton, you make me feel so special.
Hugs.

I haven’t seen Downton Abbey yet. For some reason I didn’t think I would like it from the commercials, but I have heard it’s a fabulous show. Guess I need to check it out and stop judging a book by it’s cover (<– or a show by it's commercials), huh? Love these wraps, Asha! I eat wraps quite often, but none of them look as delicious as these! LOVING all the flavors, textures and colors you have going on! Total feast for the eyes before the feast for the belly begins! Cheers, my dear! XO
Asha Shivakumar
It just took me a few episodes to get hooked on to it. Just loved how each character is weaved in so well and each character seems so important for the show. You are so sweet, I am sure your wraps are fabulous, but thanks a ton for your sweetest compliment.
Hugs lovely.

Oops those smileys showing up as question sign for some reason…I will fix it. Luvd your recipie…hugs.
annie@ciaochowbambina
This is the fanciest lunchbox I’ve ever seen…they probably would have loved something like this on Downton Abbey…however, I’m not really sure because I’ve never seen it… Though you’ve inspired me! On both the lunch and the show front!
Asha Shivakumar
Aah, I would love to hear what you think about it. Hugs my lovely.

Haha – now that you mention it – I, too, wonder if they cooked for their kids then?
I haven’t ever watched Downtown Abbey but I might have to add it to my list, Asha!
Speaking of lists, that almond sriracha cream needs to be on my to-make list! It’s perfect in these fabulous wraps – your boys must have LOVED these so much!
Asha Shivakumar
The way it’s laid out, that’s what we wonder, right?! It’s quite nice, I loved it. Your girl will like it for sure, history in a different way.
Thanks hun, this is such a staple, so decided to blog about it.

That almond-sriracha dip looks exciting! I have never watched Downton Abbey…but feeling like I finally should? Love this post…that lunch box is an inspiration! xoxo
Asha Shivakumar
Thank you so so much Rebecca for stopping by. You might like it, it’s quite addictive too;)
Thanks again hun.
Rakhee@boxofspice
Oh I love this lunch box so much Asha! It reminds of me of my mom who did that forever for us. Isn’t that so delightful to have that memory of home? I’ve never watched Downtown Abbey though I’ve heard so much about it. Me, I like super hero stuff, so at the moment I’m totally into The Flash! Hehe watch it if you like science fiction! 🙂 Have a great weekend babe!
Asha Shivakumar
Super Hero stuff, i need to check that out. My teen is asking me to watch Orphan Black, not too sure about it, it’s dark.
You mom is so sweet, I know those days with the lunch boxes… so good.
Thanks hun.
eat good 4 life
This is perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner really! I could eat at any time. I have never followed Downtown Abbey but I have a few friends that swear for it. I guess I will have to check it out some day!! I always pack my kids lunch boxes with homemade items. It is sometimes to be creative but so much better than getting unhealthy stuff at the school cafeteria.
Asha Shivakumar
Oh absolutely. I am appalled sometimes at the lunch they serve. One of the days, I was sick and had to order hot lunch and the little one said the nugget was pink inside. I had a good talk with the principal, but, nothing much happened. I really hope they get their act together and serve some healthier and good food.
I am sure your kids love your packed lunches, it’s definitely a good choice.
Have a great week my dear.

These wraps look absolutely mouthwatering and so good for you too. I can enjoy them for any meal.

So true Angie. Thanks a ton.

Ash, your wraps look divine! You are such a fabulous mom to your boys. They are so fortunate to have you pack such tasty and nutritious lunches. Your Almond Sriracha Cream is a must make condiment for sandwiches, wraps and appetizers, too. Mmm. So glad you are enjoying Downton. We will both be going through withdrawals when the series ends, LOL. Thanks for sharing and have a fun Super Bowl weekend! xo
Asha Shivakumar
Hope you are enjoying your SuperBowl my dear.
The boys are so appreciative and it makes it so much more fun. The spread is definitely something i make for sandwiches too, so yum.
Thanks as always for you great support. Hugs my dear.

I love Downton but haven’t seen the last season yet. I should watch it but I have a book to finish too! The wraps look colourful and fun! 😀
Asha Shivakumar
What book are you reading? Thanks my dear. The boys lunch box is something I always think about, so it’s easy in the mornings. This is such a easy one.
Have a great week my dear.

I am soooo behind on Downton Abbey. I actually kind of stopped watching after they killed off Matthew years ago. . 🙁 anyway, I love these wraps!!!! these are right up my alley!!! love! and we have that same lunch container from Planetbox! love it!
Asha Shivakumar
Oh myyyy, Yes!! I did not like that episode, was so mean. :(.
Isn’t this lunchbox amazing?! Your kiddos must love it so much. Hope you are having a great Sunday evening.

I love that you watched all the episodes, Asha! It’s so fun to do that sometimes… and just go for it. We go go go all the time and having a bit of a reprieve is fine by me! I like to do that with Gone With The Wind.. an all time favorite. I’ve never seen Downton Abbey, but people rave about it. I’m sure I’d like some tea my dear! Indeed, making lunch the night before saves me from crazy in the morning. I get Rob’s lunch and brekkie ready for him during the work week. I know he appreciates it so. I love these planet boxes too… sturdy, long lasting and NO plastic or paper! Hooray! And these wraps. So versatile and flavorful. I love being able to stuff wraps and sandwiches with such deliciousness and they’re fun to eat, especially with a sauce like this! Thank you for this my dear!!
Asha Shivakumar
It is nice sometimes right?! Oh goodness, love love Gone with the Wind, classic and fab. You are such a wonderful wifey, I am sure Rob must have few who are quite jealous of his lunch box:).
I remember taking steel ones growing up and it’s so much more safer than plastic. Thanks a ton my dear.

I just watched the first three episodes of Downtown for the very first time. I have to say I’m not yet hooked and I know that makes me a minority. Honestly I find your tofu wrap far more captivating. GREG
Asha Shivakumar
You speak like my husband. Now, I will take that as a great compliment Grey. thank you.

The Hungry Mum
gosh these look great! I am veggie and my gals are happy to skip the meat but they draw the line at tofu. I reckon I could convince them to try this.
Asha Shivakumar
I hope you get to convince them. When you soak it in soy and crisp it, it’s quite delicious. Thanks so much for stopping by.
Summer
The wraps look so healthy, delicious and creative. I am also in love with the almond cream ♥

What’s up, everything is going nicely here and ofcourse every one is sharing information,
that’s really good, keep up writing.

That almond cream sauce looks divine! I’m not much for tofu so I’d probably substitute with chicken. But they look lovely. If you’re looking for a good period drama to watch, I love love love The Paradise and Call the Midwife. Give The Paradise a couple episodes to get into it. But both are so endearing and the characters are infectious. You fall in love with them. Oh and Outlander – so steamy so don’t watch with the kiddos!

I miss Downton Abbey. I was lost when it was over 🙁
But now I am tuned into all the super hero series – Supergirl, Flash, Arrow, Legends of tomorrow and Daredevil, Jessica Jones
It is silly but it takes me to a different world. I think you will like Jessica Jones – she is real, very violent and not exactly a super hero.
Love this tofu wrap recipe. You make it sound so easy. I ought to try new recipes like these. I think I will be stalking your blog now

Haha, I have to laugh – I’m the opposite … I need a ladies maid! Great at cleaning, but have exactly 0 fashion sense. When I see it I love it, but can’t replicate it for myself at all. I’m sorry for my daughter who will have to suffer through wearing things I select (because her father is worse than me!) Anyway… this is like a perfect blog post for me… combining all things I love – Downton Abbey, amazing wraps, and lunch boxes!!
