Are we close to October already? How did that happen? Just seems like we welcomed summer and now it’s orange everywhere. Just a few weeks ago, we celebrated birthdays, woke up late, made ice cream, barbecued, vacations and slept late(the best part).
Here we are on the thresh hold of holiday season, and I am not ready for it, are you? I hear friends have started shopping for Halloween, then comes thanksgiving and a ton of baking. Clearly, I need a drink.
Let’s calm down and take a sip.
On a side note, this is a concoction I was honored to develop for a friend of ours who is planning on a big event. After testing and tasting a lot, I am thrilled about the idea and I hope people like the spiciness of the drink.
This is a simple syrup made from fresh pomegranate juice, spices, bring it to a boil, cool it and bottle up. As simple as that. This goes so well with some prosecco, dry white wine or champagne;). For the non-alcoholics, this works really well with some lemonade or add a dash to your NON-ALCOHOLIC Wines and no one feels left out.
Bottle it up, and makes for perfect hostess gifts.
Makes approximately 2 cups
Ingredients:
4 pomegranates
1/4 cup lemon honey
1/4 cup white sugar
1 large cinnamon stick
8 cardamom pods
10 cloves
Method:
1. Peel and remove the seeds from the pomegranates. Take the white paper like part carefully. Grind the seeds with 1 cup of water.
2. Filter it and remove the seeds and add the juice to a thick bottomed pan.
3. Add all the other ingredients to the juice and simmer it for 20 minutes or until slightly thickened.
4. Let cool and bottle it up.
Enjoy with some champagne or as shown a non alcoholic wine.
Note: You can store this for upto 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
Bottle it up in clean jars as gifts.
Serve with some dry white wine, champagne or use it to sweeten white/green tea.

Shall I join you for the drink? Yes, I like it spicy.

Those summery and very pleasant months just fly, don’t they? I’m still in slight denial of the impeding autumn and holding on to bits of summer here and there.

This is really nice – it’s essentially a fancy grenadine. (Don’t even think of buying the stuff in the store – no pomegranates in it.) This is wonderful – thanks so much.

Love the simple styling. I can’t wait to receive your giveaway gift – I won’t be back until November, but a family member will be present to drop it off in my room. I am having Argentinian red wine right now, but would love a bit of spiced pomegranate syrup with champagne. Genius.
Harini M
Wow this is great Asha.I am surely trying out. What is lemon honey though, any substitutes
Asha Shivakumar
@Harini-Thanks. Lemon honey is just honey flavored with some lemon juice. Of course, you could use plain honey and add 1/2 lemon juice when you boil the mixture.

Hey Ash! I love this idea. It would be useful for so many thing, but Prosecco with Pomegranite makes me very happy! We keep pomegranate around all the time. Thanks for sharing a great idea.
BTW, thanks for dropping by SBD and to answer your question, probably 95% of my photos are taken with artificial light. I use a softbox. I don’t have a window in our house that gets good light for photography. I’m happy to answer more questions if you want.
Asha Shivakumar
Thanks Bill.
You are doing a fantastic job with your softbox.
